Revitalizing Downtown Melbourne
is the goal of the Melbourne Downtown Association. This nonprofit organization,
formed in 1985 from a progression of both City of Melbourne and Chamber of Commerce
task forces and steering committees interested in initiating Downtown redevelopment,
is made up of businesses and individuals with a common interest in the revival
of Downtown Melbourne.

Henegar Center for the Arts

The Henegar Center was born
from the vision of a dedicated group of community leaders. As the deterioration
of two historical buildings in downtown Melbourne became increasingly apparent,
a small group formed to revive the treasured landmarks. The buildings, formerly
public schools, were donated by the Brevard County School System for transformation
into cultural arts facilities. The Henegar Center for the Arts was thus born,
named for Ruth Henegar, beloved principal for whom the original middle school
was named in 1963.

Located in east central
Florida (Brevard County/Florida's Space Coast), one hour's drive from Orlando
International Airport and Disney, just east of Exit 73 off I-95, 25 minutes from
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and 15 minutes from the beaches. The East
Coast Zoological Society of Florida, Inc. (ECZS) was formed in 1984 with the goal
of building a new zoo for Brevard County. The Brevard Zoo celebrated its Grand
Opening on March 26, 1994.

The Downstairs Galleries
located in the Arcade in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Florida. This local cooperative
fine arts gallery features artists living and working in Brevard County in Central
Florida's Spacecoast. The unique Florida experience is reflected in pastels,
watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, drawings, collage, sculpture and computer
graphics, as well as a large selection of prints.

The purpose of the Society is to encourage and
bring together those artists who enjoy the medium, to exchange ideas, and to help
familiarize one another with the different water media painting techniques. Only
an interest in watercolors is required to be a member, and the expertise of the
members varies from beginner to master painter. The Society also enhances the
medium in the eyes of the public and educates it to its beauty.
